Hi from Charters Towers,

I left Emerald at 8am, after filling up the Zuke and then visiting the bakery, which was  conveniently located adjacent to the petrol station. It was a mostly uneventful trip north-west  along the Gregory Highway to Charters Towers. Whilst I was having lunch by the road-side, a group  (flock?) of half a dozen emus decided to cross the road about 100 metres away, just as a small  truck pulling a large horse float was approaching. The truck slowed down, and eventually decided to stop, as the emus kept darting from one side of the road to the other, apparently “spooked” by the  truck.

I arrived in Charters Towers at about 1:30pm. After doing a bit of shopping at Woolies, I checked  in to the motel.

I’ll have another sleep-in tomorrow morning, as my next destination, Cairns, is only 480km away.
