Greetings all, from Bendigo,

I left Lakes Entrance at 8am today. It had been raining all night, and was still raining. The reserve fuel warning “message” came up on the “display” just before Sale, so I filled up the tank there, after having done 750km on the first tank (and the trip computer estimated I could have done another 150km on the reserve!). The car is ideal for touring, with such a large range. The sky had now cleared, but it was still a bit too cool to have the top down. I grabbed some just-baked cheese & bacon rolls from a bakery in Rosedale, and just after Traralgon, at about 10am, had one, with butter, for morning tea (coffee actually, from a coffee bag; I’ve got a thermos for hot water, and an esky for milk and butter). It started raining again around Morwell (and it rained on and off for the rest of the day).

At Pakenham, I headed north to Healesville. By the time I arrived there (around 1pm) it had stopped raining. I decided to give the sanctuary a miss, and had lunch (another C&B roll and coffee) at a beautiful park on the outskirts of Healesville (the Maroondah Reservoir Park), surrounded by juvenile noisy minahs and magpies, and ducks and ibis (ugly bloody things), all trying (unsuccessfully) to cadge a feed. I then headed to Bendigo, via a round-about route (up to Alexandra, and across to Yea) as I couldn’t miss the fantastic drive between Healesville and Narbethong.

Between Healeville and Narbethong

Thankfully, I was able to have the top down, until I got to Narbethong, where it started raining again.

Irene, you were right about Seeless (Seymour).

I arrived at Bendigo at around 4pm, and I think I might stay a couple of nights to check out the sights.

Cheers,
Julian
