Greetings from Wentworth,

I left Cobar around 7:30 this morning, heading west along the Barrier Highway towards Broken Hill. I got a packed lunch from the Motel, as the only town in the 460 odd km to Broken Hill is Wilcannia, and it’s a “one horse” town. The reserve petrol light came on about 100km from Wilcannia, but luckily Emmdale was only a few km away, so I filled up there. The petrol station IS Emmdale. I stopped for morning coffee around 9:30am at a rest area some 30km further along, and enjoyed some chocolate cake. Out this way, most oncoming drivers give you a wave; mostly it’s just the index finger raised from their grip on the steering wheel, but some raise four fingers. I’ve found I’m a four finger person.

I arrived in Broken Hill just after midday, and decided to carry on south down the Silver City Highway towards Wentworth. I had one of my ham, cheese and salad sandwiches on the outskirts of Broken Hill. I had to fill up the petrol tank again at Coombah (again, just a petrol station). I had an early afternoon coffee (and the other H, C & S sanger) at around 2pm.

I arrived in Wentworth, one the junction of the Darling and Murray Rivers, just after 3pm, and decided I’d stay there for the night. The motel is “most excellent”. It’s part of the RSL club and is right on a bank of the Darling River. My room hasĀ  balcony, overlooking the pool, where I’ve enjoyed a couple of beers.

I’ve yet to decide where I’m heading to tomorrow?

Cheers,
Julian
