Greetings from Cairns,

I left the motel in Charters Towers at around 8 this morning, filled up the Zuke, and headed north-east, then north, along the Flinders Highway to Townsville. From there it was north-west to Ingham, then north to Cairns along the Bruce Highway. It took a bit of getting used to the traffic on the Bruce Highway, after  the minimal traffic I’d encountered on the inland route I’d been on for the last four days. I grabbed lunch in Tully around 12:45, and was in my hotel room by 3pm.

Tomorrow’s leg to Cooktown, via the coast, is only 242km, but it’s recommended that only 4WDs take the track north from Cape Tribulation, so it may be slow going, and I expect I’ll be stopping frequently to  admire the scenery.

Cheers,
Julian
