G’day y’all, from Mildura,

Left Glenelg at 7:45am (S.A. time), heading for Mildura, and beyond. The early morning air was cool, and soothing, on my slightly sunburned face. I’d convinced myself that I didn’t need to use any sunscreen yesterday, as the temperature was in the low 20s, with a patchy cloud cover, but hours of top down driving had a cumulative effect.

I stopped at the bakery in Truro around 9:30am for the “usual”, but they didn’t have any; I had to settle for a couple of sausage rolls, with C&B on top! Had one just outside Truro for morning coffee, then liberally applied some 30 SPF sunscreen before setting off.

Topped up the petrol tank in Renmark around midday, and had lunch on the outskirts, on a bank of the Murray River, where an old coot came over and tried to bludge some lunch off me.

The temperature was now in the high 20s, and I somewhat reluctantly put the roof up, so as to not aggravate my sunburn.

I started feeling drowsy as I approached Mildura (probably as a result of digesting the sausage rolls; they’re a little heavier than my usual mid-morning and midday repasts), so I decided I stay there for the night, even though it was only around 2:30pm. As I pulled in to the motel, a couple of pre-pubuscent boys riding their bicycles on the footpath called out to me, “wicked car, mate”, to which I replied “thanks, fellas”.

BTW, on consulting my Reader’s Digest “Book of the Road” road atlas, I learned that the SE in “Kingston SE” stands for South East, to avoid confusion with Kingston-on-Murray.

Cheers,
Julian
