Hello, from Wangaratta,
Headed off at 7:45am from Mildura. It was quite cool again, but temperatures in the mid 30s were forecast. Got the “usual” at Robinvale, where I turned off the Sturt Highway onto the Murray Valley Highway, heading for Swan Hill, and beyond. I stopped for morning coffee at about 9:15am at a rest area adjacent to an orchard. Even before I got out of the car, I heard a number of loud bangs, like shotgun blasts. They continued to occur, randomly. After a while it dawned on me; it was a bird scaring device. The temperature was now 27, at 9:30am, so I decided I’d run with the top up, and the “egg-nishner” on, for the rest of the day.
Stopped for lunch around 12, at a rest area just outside Gunbower (between Swan Hill and Echuca), where the temperature was now 35. After having lunch, I consulted my road atlas, and decided I’d head for Wangaratta, via Yarrawonga, to stop the night. I arrived around 3:30pm.
I’m heading for the “high country” tomorrow, where hopefully things will be cooler, and the roads will have some real corners!
Cheers,
Julian
