Greetings from Dalby,

I departed the motel in Tamworth at 7am, after removing the ice from the windscreen of the “Zuke”. It was a pleasant start to the day as I continued north along the New England Highway, the low sun in the cloudless sky glinting off the frost covered grasses. I stopped at the bakery in Guyra at 8:30, intending to get some Cheese and Bacon Rolls, but again I felt that the quantity of bacon was sub-par. I bought a ham, cheese and pickle “pull-apart” roll instead, and consumed it with morning coffee around 9:40.

I arrived in Warwick at 12:30, filled the tank, and then spent 15 minutes trying to find the Subway, before resorting to asking a local for directions. It was on the bypass road, rather than the main street as is usually the case. The sub was devoured a rest stop on the outskirts of town, but I didn’t have any feathered friends with which to share it this time. I continued along the New England Highway to Toowoomba, where I turned north-west along the Warrego Highway.

I arrived at the motel in Dalby, just after 3, and proceeded to attempt to book a room in my next intended destination, Emerald. After calling 5 motels, none of which had any vacancies, I was beginning to think that I may have to alter my route plan. Thankfully, I succeeded in getting a room on the sixth call, albeit at the more expensive “apartment” section of that particular motel. Given the difficulty in getting a room, I decided to also book ahead for the following night, in Charters Towers. I then proceed to do the “usual” walk around the town centre.

Today’s leg was 591km; tomorrow’s will be a slightly longer, around 660km.

Cheers,
Julian
