G’day from American River,
It has been a long day. I left Wudinna around 8:30am, heading east along the Eyre Highway to Port Augusta, then south down the Princes Highway, through Adelaide, and was in my room at the Kangaroo Island Lodge at 7:30pm. I stopped only twice, for a late lunch in Port Wakefield (a chicken salad roll, from a little bakery that was doing a roaring trade), and to fill the tank in Adelaide. All the traffic, and traffic lights, in Adelaide was a bit hard to take! Once I got through Adelaide and environs, the drive down the Fleurieu Peninsula to the Kangaroo Island ferry terminal at Cape Jervis was quite pleasant. I arrived there at 5pm. The ferry was supposed to depart at 6, but the car and I were on board by 5:30, and she was under way 5:45. The trip over to KI took about 45 minutes, and was quite rough, the seas having been whipped up by strong winds that blew for most of the afternoon. It was another 40km drive, in the dark, to the Lodge; I covered 720km today.
Cheers,
Julian
