Hello from the Mungo Lodge,
I departed Menindee ’round 8, a little later than usual, as there’s no baker in town, and the take away joint at which I was going to provision didn’t open ’til 8. After provisioning, I refuelled and headed into the Kinchega National Park. I initially followed the River Road, along the banks of the Darling River. It still wasn’t very photogenic, so I took a shot of a gnarled old River Red Gum clinging to the bank.
Next I visited the remains of the Kinchega Homestead, including an old shearing shed.
Morning coffee was had ’round 10:15 at the Morton Boulka Picnic Area, beside a creek joining Lake Menindee and Lake Cawndilla. The lakes had a lot of water in them, but they weren’t very photogenic either.
After covering 80km in the park, I’d looped back to Menindee by 10:45. I contintued my run south, following the Darling River, to Wentworth, having lunch near Pooncarie at 12. At Wentworth I turned east towards Mildura, refuelling at Buronga (as there’s no petrol available at the Mungo Lodge), and headed north-east on the final leg for the day, travelling 458km.
I was in my room by 3. The room, and Lodge, is “very nice” (it’d want to be for the price!). Here’s the sunset from my rear verandah.
Cheers,
Julian
