Kalimera from Kings Canyon, again,
I didn’t venture very far from the resort today. This morning, I did the 6 km King’s Canyon Rim walk. It’s about 10 km down the road from the resort, and even though I was there at a relatively early 7:30, there were already a couple of tour buses disgorging their cargos of like noisy teenagers, but. I was back at the carpark ’round 11. I took my time, stopping for 10 minutes or more in some places, to allow one tour group to move on, and leave me in quiet solitude for a few minutes, ’til the next group arrived (as it turned out, I was not the only one doing so, as you’ll see in the photos).
Unfortunately, the steep ascent at the beginning of the walk took its toll on my right knee; I was fine on the flat bits, but was wincing every second step on descents. I doubt that I’ll be climbing Uluru tomorrow! Despite the pain, it’s the most enjoyable walk I’ve done this trip; the Katherine Gorge walk comes in a close second.
Here’s a selection of photos of the scenery, and wildlife; it was hard to get a good exposure because of the combination of bright sunlight and dark shadows at that time of the day:
I spent the afternoon recovering and just lazing about, and having a couple of well deserved drinks in the bar, after it opened at 3pm.
Here’s today’s (very short) route in Google Maps:
Cheers,
Julian
