G’day from Cooktown, again,

I didn’t go for that drive inland today; I decided to “veg out” at the resort instead.

Here is a panoramic photo of the Endeavour River, taken from part way up Grassy Hill this morning (Grassy Hill isn’t grassy, it’s scrubby; it apparently once was grassy, when the abos used to burn it). Part of the Cooktown main street (the Bowling Club and a park) are visible at the bottom left of the picture. It’s quite a small town, the population being only 1,400. The Coral Sea is not far to the right.

I tried to get a booking for another night here, but they’re booked out, so I’m heading back south, to Townsville, tomorrow. I was considering driving back via the Northern Territory and South Australia, but my  landscape architect informed me yesterday that the contractors want to start work on the 22 August, and that  doesn’t give me enough time to do so. I’ll probably continue down the coast until Maryborough, and take an inland route from there.

Cheers,
Julian
