Hello from Wilpena,

I departed Broken Hill at 8:20am, after filling the car with fuel, and provisioning for the trip at Baker’s Delight. It had been raining sporadically overnight, and was doing so when I left. By the time I had morning coffee, near Yunta around 10am, the rain had stopped for good.

I continued on through Petersborough, Orroroo, Wilmington, Quorn (where I had lunch, about 1pm), Hawker, and arrived at Wilpena around 2:30. I could have taken a number of shorter routes to Wilpena, on either minor paved roads, or gravel roads, but I took the longer route via main roads, as I didn’t want to arrive before check in time.

The location of the “resort” is excellent, nestled adjacent to Wilpena Pound. The room is good too, but there’s no ‘phone in the room, and there’s no mobile reception. The Bar/Bistro has WiFi internet access, and thankfully my room is close enough to be able to get a strong signal. I had a couple of Cooper’s in the Bar/Bistro before having dinner there, watching the changing afternoon light on the cliffs of Wilpena Pound. I’ve yet to decide what to do tomorrow; there is a multitude of walks, and drives, to choose from, including “self-guided” and “tag-along” 4WD tours.

Today’s trip covered 560km.

Cheers,
Julian
