Greetings from Blackall,

I left St. George at 7:30 this morning, heading north again, along the Carnarvon Highway to Roma, where I turned west, along the Warrego Highway. At around 10:15 I stopped in Amby, for morning coffee. I filled up the tank in Morven around 11:30, then headed northwest along the Landsborough (or Matilda) Highway. Lunch was taken around 12:30pm at Augathella, and I arrived at the motel in Blackall around 3:00pm. Today’s leg of the trip was 672km.

It was an uneventful trip, apart from coming close to being side-swiped by a three-trailer road train as I was overtaking it at 110kmh+, just 50km from my destination. The trailers started to fish-tail slightly into the right-hand lane, on encountering an uneven road surface. Fortunately, (for me) there was a wide shoulder on the right-hand side of the road at that point, and I was able to keep a wide enough berth of the trailers.

I’ll be heading for Mount Isa tomorrow. As it’s 850km away, I’m going to pay my bill tonight and get an early start in the morning.

Cheers,
Julian
