Hello from Margaret River, still,
There were many different bird calls waking me this morning; the only one I could identify was a Black Cockatoo.
After visiting Brumby’s Bakery just after 8, I headed southwest for about 170km, to Northcliffe. The Karri forest between Pemberton and Northcliffe was quite impressive (but not as impressive as the Mountain Ash forest near Healesville in Victoria). From Northcliffe, it was a 30km drive though D’Entrecasteaux National Park, where I visited Windy Bay, Point D’Entrecasteaux, and Salmon Beach. The park is mostly heath country, flowering in yellow, blue, pink and white, and was in stark contrast to the tall forests I’d just been through.
I returned along the way I’d come, and at Karridale turned south to visit Cape Leeuwin, at the bottom end of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. I then headed north, towards Cape Naturaliste, some 90km away, via a minor road that runs parallel to the Bussell Highway. However, by the time I neared the Margaret River turnoff, around 2:30, I decided I’d had enough, and went “home”. Since I’m heading north towards Perth tomorrow, before turning east, I’ll probably check it out on the way.
The restaurant here isn’t open on Sundays. I’ve been eating way more on this trip than I would at home, so I decided to have something simple for dinner; a “sub” from Subway!
Cheers,
Julian
