Hello from Lakes Entrance,

I left Blairgowrie sometime after 7 this morning, heading for Lakes Entrance. I was informed by the receptionist when I made the motel reservation that it would be about a 3.5 hour drive from the Mornington Peninsula by the most direct route. So, to fill in the day, I took a roundabout journey. I cut across to the Westernport Bay side of the peninsula, then drove around the bay to Wonthaggi, stopping in Hastings for provisions. From Wonthaggi, I went to Inverloch, and then, via some minor roads, to the Wilsons Promontory National Park. On the way there, a Vangelis composition played on the “radio” (from my iPod, in “shuffle” mode). That reminded me of another Greek composer, of similar vintage and ilk, but I was unable to recall his name. For the next 15 minutes or so, I struggled in vain to remember his name, until I came to a hamlet along the road, called Yanakie. Immediately his name came to me; it was Yanni.

I had a brief look around the park, and had a late lunch there, but didn’t see anything particularly photogenic. I expect that I would have, if I had gone on one of the many “short” walks of an hour or more, but I didn’t have time for that. So, the promised shot of the “One Apostle” from yesterday will have to suffice, photograph-wise.

The One Apostle

On leaving the park, I passed through Foster and Yarram, joining the Princes Highway at Sale, and continued on through Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance. I arrived at my motel around 4:30.

Cheers,
Julian
