Greetings from Ceduna,
I set the alarm for 6, but was out of bed at 5:45, having been dozing on and off since some cheeping bloody sparrows first woke me around 5:00. I was away shortly after 7:30.
I took the “long way” to Ceduna, southwest down the Lincoln Highway. Whyalla had a strangely familiar look to it! I stopped in Cowell at about 9:30, to buy a pastie and 2 C&B rolls from the bakery. The pastie was consumed with morning coffee around 10. I was in Port Lincoln by 11:30, where I topped up the tank. As I headed northwest up the Flinders Highway, it started to lightly rain, and the petrichor filled my nostrils. When the rain stopped around 12:30, I stopped for lunch. It remained overcast for the remainder of the day.
I arrived in Ceduna at about 3:30. At the motel, I was given a free upgrade to an “Executive Suite”, with a balcony overlooking the bay on the other side of the road; it’s a shame you can see bugger all because of the Norfolk pines! There are security gates at the entrances, so I assume there’s an aboriginal problem here.
The seafood crepe I had for dinner was delicious.
I’m off to Eucla tomorrow, 499km away, just 13km the other side of the S.A./W.A border.
Cheers,
Julian
